چکیده

Abstract This study analyses the role of conjunctions in clause linkage Australian languages. Conjunctions are seemingly straightforward clause-linking devices, but they remain under-studied, both for languages and from a broader typological perspective. In this study, we propose functional definition conjunctions, as set against other resources linkage. We show that captures not just prototypical free-standing elements (the equivalents if , because etc.), also various types bound markers with similar function (bound to clause-scoping positions or predicates). survey representative sample 53 languages, showing marginal resource Australia, seems be assumed relevant literature, often form major category within systems. identify number areal patterns, based on size conjunction inventories their morphosyntactic features.

On Non-Canonical Clause Linkage

The present paper investigates a certain subset of clause linkage phenomena and develops a constraint-based account to the empirical fact that clauses need to be distinguished w.r.t their degree of integratedness into a potential matrix clause. Considering as example German, it is shown that the generally assumed twofold distinction between main and subordinate clauses (or root and embedded cla...

Optimizing Clause Matching Automata in Committed-choice Languages

We introduce a formalism for clause matching in concurrent committed-choice languages based on the construction of clause matching automata, a heuristic for the compilation of clause matching, and a technique for more eecient implementation of matches. The formalism is notable for its generality and simplicity, the heuristic for combining important advantages of several existing heuristics. The...
